Dynamic Quilting

It wanted to come home with me! A fabric story.

Three times it happened. Three times! That certainly must mean that I should buy it for my #fabricstash.

I went to my favorite local quilt shop on #smallbusinessSaturday after Thanksgiving. The shop featured a holiday sale, and of course I wanted to take advantage of that for fabrics for my next big quilt project.

On a shelf, with the flat side of the bolt facing out, was a very cool floral on a white background. I really, really liked it. Now, I’m not really into florals, but this one had orange, lime green, and other bright colors that gave it a contemporary, open feeling. I wanted it.

I touched the fabric, and then went around the corner to look for some fabric with dots for my summer project. I heard a noise, and realized that the floral bolt had fallen on the floor. I assumed that it must have moved when I touched it, so I picked it up and placed it carefully back on the shelf.

I went around the other corner of the shelf unit, came back, and the bolt was back on the floor. I put it back, making sure it was secure on its shelf. I moved away, looked back, and there it was on the floor, again. That fabric wanted to come home with me! What else could I think?!?

The thing is, I wasn’t sure what I would do with the fabric, except maybe use it as a quilt back, but, hey, it was on sale, after all. The quilt shop owner suggested spring pillows – perfect, as the orange in the flowers matches the curry accent color in my living room. So, I bought two yards. One always needs an extra quilt back in one's stash, right?

The fabric hung around in my kitchen, giving me a chance to think about what I could do with it. Eventually I put it together that not only does my living room have the accent curry color, so does my kitchen – and the walls are yellow with white woodwork. The floral fabric is perfect to cover up a couple of pantry shelf units and replace the "temporary" curtains I made for them over two years ago!

I had to go back and purchase two more yards – at full price – to get both curtains stitched and put up before Christmas.

The fabric knew it belonged to me.

Adding to my #fabricstash and my #fabricpalette. Finding possibilities. Making my kitchen cheery. Sewing project completed. The right fabric for the job. Making me happy! #quilting #sewing #colorandfabric #quiltfabric
